Our eyes are one of our most important features. It is important to take care of your eyes so that later in life you won’t be met with deteriorated sight or other complications. Whether you are a contact lens wearer or not your eyes can get dry, irritated, itchy and red due to myriad of factors. Allergies, low tear duct count, or infection turning to prescription eye drops is sometimes the only solution to provide immediate relief and help treat the infection or irritation. If you have an eye infection it is imperative that you go straight to your General Practitioner or Eye Doctor. Many infections like pink eye are incredibly contagious and can not only spread to others but can spread from eye to eye. Another common eye infection is a stye which forms a bump on the eye lid and is usually from an infection in a hair follicle or oil gland. These can cause pain and can even affect your eye sight.

Prescription eye drops must be administered correctly in order to be effective. Some people are more sensitive to putting eye drops in the eye than others but either way if you have an infection or allergy the only way it will improve is to make sure the drop goes in the eye and is absorbed. Though blinking is a natural reaction when putting eye drops in you will be able to get the drop if you are patient and remain calm.

Some eye drops are available over the counter but these drops treat only the symptoms and should not be used to treat an infection. You don’t want to risk putting anything in your eyes that you are not familiar with which is why it is important to seek a doctor’s advice. We only get one set of eyes in our lifetime and to maintain healthy, non-irritated eyes you must stay on top of washing your hands and not rubbing your eyes. This will help prevent infections from starting. Also, visit your eye doctor every six months or so to get them checked to make sure there are no problems. Many common problems that are caught early can be treated and corrected. But if you fail to look out for your eyes later in life your eyes may fail you.
