Watering and itching eyes are a major source of discomfort and an inconvenience. People allergic to pollen, mold, dust mites, pet hair, and pollution to name just a few common allergens, often find themselves constantly rubbing their eyes until they are swollen and red. Pataday eye drops, manufactured by Alcon, have been shown to relieve allergy eye symptoms also known as allergic conjunctivitis.

Pataday (0.2% olopatadine hydrochloride) antihistamine drops are used once a day to reduce itching, watering, inflammation, and burning. They work by reducing histamines in the body. Specifically they block the histamine known as H1. In conjunction with protocols to reduce your exposure to allergens, the eye drops can make allergy season much less uncbearable. Pataday is a prescription product and unlike over the counter eye drops can be used for an extended period without experiencing worse redness and puffiness after you discontinue use.

Pataday may contain a preservative that can be absorbed by soft contact lenses, so if you wear contacts wait at least ten minutes before putting in them in, and approximately ten minutes after taking them out before using the eye drops.
Approximately 10% of people experience cold symptoms and a sore throat. And less than 5% eye pain, blurred vision, sinusitis, nausea, and headaches. The symptoms may be related to the allergy condition itself and not be a result of using Pataday.

Pataday can be used alone or with other allergy medications. The drops have no known drug interactions, but be certain that your prescribing physician has a list of the medications you are taking. Make sure to consult your physician before using Pataday with other prescription or over the counter eye products. However, stop using Pataday if you develop any signs of eye irritation such as crusting, drainage, stinging, swelling, and increased redness.

Do not use the eye drops if you notice a change in the color of the solution or particles. Tell your doctor before use if you have any kind of current eye infection. Be careful not to touch the tip of the bottle to any other surface to avoid contaminating the product.

Hands should be clean before touching the eyes. To use Pataday tilt the head back and pull back the lower lid. Drop the prescribed number of drops in affected eyes.
